Material Selection And Options

From Crushed Stone To River Rock

Choose from crushed stone, pea gravel, rounded river rock, decomposed granite (DG), lava rock, and polished pebbles. Angular aggregates lock in place for driveways and paths; rounded stones excel in beds and dry creek features. We help match rock size (3/8 in, 3/4 in, 1–3 in) to function for stability and comfort.

Color and texture options—granite grays, desert tans, black basalt, burgundy cinder, mixed river blends—enhance curb appeal. We advise on coverage depth: 2–3 in for beds, 3–4 in for walkways, and 4–6 in for light vehicle areas. As a guide, 1 cubic yard covers about 100 sq ft at 3 in; 1 ton of 3/4 in rock covers roughly 80–100 sq ft at 2 in.

Grading, Edging, And Weed Control Done Right

Our process begins with measurement, grading for drainage, and precise excavation. We install commercial-grade landscape fabric (3–5 oz non-woven) with 6–12 in overlaps, secure it every 3–4 ft, and set steel, paver, or composite edging to contain material and define clean lines.

Material is delivered clean and placed without damaging turf or hardscape. We spread to spec, rake to an even finish, and compact where needed. On slopes, we use anchoring pins, jute netting, or stabilizers; for DG, we water and compact in lifts. We finish with a tidy perimeter and haul away debris.

Beauty, Drainage, And Durability That Last

Design integrates rock size, color, and contrast with plantings, pavers, and lighting. Accents such as boulders, stepping pads, and dry creek beds create focal points and direct runoff. We can combine mulch in planting zones with stone in high-traffic or drainage areas for performance and warmth.

Engineered function matters: rock ground cover is permeable, reduces erosion, and supports fire-wise defensible space. We plan swales and French drains, specify underlayment and depth for footpaths and patios, and select angular aggregates for traction. Pre-emergent herbicide options further suppress weeds.

Maintenance is straightforward: occasional raking, leaf blowing on low speed, and top-ups every 2–3 years to refresh color and depth. Treat stains promptly; use pet-friendly rinses where needed. With proper depth and edging, displacement is minimal and long-term costs beat annual mulch replacements.
